The NDIS phone line now closes at 7 pm, one hour earlier each weekday

The NDIS National Contact Centre changed its weekday hours on August 24, 2026. The participant line still opens at 8 am local time, but it now closes at 7 pm instead of 8 pm in every state and territory. The numbers and contact methods are unchanged.

The final evening hour has gone

If you used to call the NDIS between 7 pm and 8 pm on a weekday, that hour has gone. From August 24 the National Contact Centre is open from 8 am to 7 pm, Monday to Friday, using local time in each state and territory. The participant number remains 1800 800 110. The main contact page shows the same hours for webchat, so changing channels at 7:05 pm does not restore the lost hour. An online enquiry remains available for work that does not need a live conversation.

Who depended on the 7 pm to 8 pm window

NDIS participants, applicants, families, carers, nominees and providers who use the National Contact Centre, especially people whose work, support or care schedule previously left the 7 pm to 8 pm hour as their practical calling window.

One hour removed from every weekday

  • The former National Contact Centre window was 8 am to 8 pm, Monday to Friday, in local time across each state and territory.
  • From August 24, 2026, the closing time is 7 pm. The opening time and weekdays did not change.
  • The participant number remains 1800 800 110. The official contact page separately lists 1800 411 640 for First Nations Connect and 1300 311 675 for providers.
  • The main NDIS contact page also lists webchat from 8 am to 7 pm on weekdays and an online enquiry route for access, participant, provider, early childhood and general questions.
  • The NDIA says the Board and Minister approved the change to align staff with periods of highest demand and give more focus to complex calls. The announcement does not publish an hour-by-hour demand table.

The lines, hours, and latest wait measure

The National Contact Centre serves people with disability, families, carers and service providers; its opening hours are different from the hours of an individual NDIS or partner office.

The latest official quarterly performance measure available on publication is for the March 2026 quarter, when the average speed of answer was 93 seconds and 67% of calls were answered within 60 seconds.

That 93-second measure is a past-quarter average rather than a live hold estimate. It combines calls made across many days and times and cannot tell a caller what the queue is at this moment.

The same quarterly report says 87% of callers reported their enquiry was resolved at first contact, which measures the outcome of answered calls rather than the time spent waiting for one.

The main contact page identifies webchat as suitable for general enquiries and directs urgent or complex enquiries toward phone or email contact.

After-hours and hold-time questions, answered

Will a call already in the queue at 7 pm be disconnected?

The announcement does not say. It publishes the staffed operating window but does not describe what happens to a call that entered before closing and remains on hold. If that edge case matters, call with enough margin that the answer does not decide whether your issue is heard that day.

Does the earlier closing time change my NDIS deadline?

No deadline change appears in the announcement. A review, evidence request or other dated notice still carries its own due date. Do not assume a phone-line closure extends it; use a written or online route where available and keep proof of what you submitted.

Is webchat open after the phone line closes?

Not under the hours published on the main contact page on August 24. It lists webchat from 8 am to 7 pm, Monday to Friday, matching the National Contact Centre window.

How long will I wait on hold?

There is no live public estimate on the official contact page. The latest located quarterly report measured a 93-second average answer time in the March 2026 quarter, but that is a historical average across many calls and cannot predict today's queue.

Where five fewer weekly hours land

The immediate loss is five contact hours across an ordinary Monday-to-Friday week. A caller who could only reach the agency after 7 pm now has to call earlier or use a non-live route.

Local time matters. The published window follows each state or territory rather than one national eastern-time clock, which prevents a Western Australian caller from losing several extra hours to a Sydney closing time.

The hours change does not alter a participant's plan, an access request, a review deadline or a payment rule. It changes when the national phone and chat channels are staffed.

Older NDIS pages may take time to catch up. On the change date, the main contact page showed 7 pm while at least one older feedback page still displayed the former 8 pm closing time. The dated announcement and main contact page are the current sources.

How to reach the agency under the new window

  1. Move any weekday call planned for after 7 pm into the published 8 am to 7 pm local-time window.
  2. Use the line that matches the caller: 1800 800 110 for participants, 1800 411 640 for First Nations Connect, or 1300 311 675 for providers.
  3. For a general question that does not need a phone conversation, check the live webchat during its published hours or use the online enquiry route and keep the submission confirmation.
  4. Check the main contact page again around public holidays or exceptional events. A past festive-season notice is not evidence of the next holiday schedule.
  5. If an older NDIS page shows 8 pm, follow the August 24 operating-hours notice and the current contact page rather than the stale line.

A small change with a direct cost for late callers

This is a small operational change with an unusually direct effect: nobody loses a service entitlement, but everyone loses the same final hour of live weekday access. For callers who relied on that hour, the difference is not cosmetic.

The agency connected the shorter window with strengthening self-service options, but the announcement does not list a new product or promise that an online request will be answered immediately. The useful alternatives are the ones already shown on the contact page: webchat during staffed hours, the online enquiry form, and local office or partner details.

QueueCheck keeps the current numbers and the latest reported call-performance measure on a separate contact guide. This dated record preserves what changed and when, while the guide can move if the agency changes the hours or publishes a newer performance quarter.

What the agency did not publish

  • The NDIA announcement and main contact page are the primary sources for the new window. No separate secondary report was needed to establish an agency's own opening hours.
  • The agency did not publish a live call-wait feed, a best hour to call or an hour-by-hour demand table with the change. QueueCheck therefore does not recommend a supposedly quiet hour.
  • The March 2026 average answer time predates the August hours change and should not be used to claim the shorter window improved or worsened call waits. Later quarterly reporting is needed for that comparison.
  • Individual offices and partners publish their own hours. This record covers the National Contact Centre, not every place where someone can speak to an NDIS representative.
