Check the USCIS case-inquiry date, not only the 80% figure
In the USCIS processing-time tool, select Form I-90, the correct renewal or replacement category, and the listed processing location. Then enter the receipt date. USCIS uses a later threshold based on the time taken to complete 93% of cases to decide when an online inquiry is allowed.
Being beyond the displayed 80% processing figure does not always make the case eligible for an inquiry. The receipt-date result in the official tool is the practical answer.
Look for a specific hold before sending a general inquiry
Check for a biometrics notice, request for evidence, returned mail, address change, fee problem, or online-account document. If the card was produced but never arrived, use the USCIS non-delivery route. If USCIS printed incorrect information, use the correction instructions for the filing reason rather than reporting only that the case is late.
Do not file the wrong form to solve an urgent proof problem
I-90 does not remove conditions from a two-year Green Card; that is generally handled through I-751 or I-829. If you need temporary evidence of permanent-resident status while the correct case is pending, follow the USCIS Contact Center instructions instead of filing a duplicate I-90 just to create another receipt.
