What makes US Citizenship and Immigration Services different
USCIS runs several systems, and they fail separately
The case status lookup, the myUSCIS account, online filing, and the appointment scheduler are distinct systems behind one brand. One can be down while the others are fine, which is why a friend saying it works for them settles nothing. Establish which one you are actually using before concluding anything.
A missing case is almost never a deleted case
The public lookup reads from a copy of the case record rather than the record itself. Cases disappear from it during maintenance and reappear afterwards with nothing changed. The receipt notice is the durable evidence that a case exists; the website is a window onto it.
Deadlines do not pause because the site did
A request for evidence carries a response date that an outage does not extend. Under the regulations extra time to respond is not granted, so an outage close to a deadline is a reason to document and escalate rather than to wait. Capture the error with the time visible before closing the tab.

Is USCIS down right now?
This page does not monitor USCIS and cannot tell you. USCIS posts outages and planned maintenance itself, on its alerts page and the myUSCIS maintenance page, and those are linked above. Those are the operator saying what is happening rather than a count of strangers reporting a problem.
Why has my case status disappeared?
The public lookup reads a copy of the case record, and cases routinely vanish from it during maintenance and return unchanged. A case that was visible yesterday and is not today points at the tool. Your receipt notice remains the evidence that the case exists.
Does an outage extend my response deadline?
No. Response periods on a request for evidence are fixed and additional time may not be granted. If an outage is blocking you close to a deadline, screenshot the error with the time visible, check whether USCIS has acknowledged the outage, and keep that record.
I keep getting signed out of myUSCIS. Is it broken?
A sign-in loop is usually a stale session rather than an outage. Try a private window, which bypasses the stuck session. If it fails across two different browsers, the problem is more likely theirs than yours.
My payment was declined. Is that a USCIS problem?
Usually not. Declined payments are generally the card issuer, and repeated attempts can look like fraud and freeze the card. Contact your bank before retrying, and check that you used the payment authorisation the form requires.
