The arithmetic behind a multi-decade queue

Common questions

Is there any way to speed up an F4 case?

No filing, fee, or inquiry moves a cut-off, and no expedite exists for visa number availability. What a family controls is being documentarily complete when the date is finally reached, and keeping addresses current so the National Visa Center's notices arrive. Cases have been pushed to the back of the ready queue for missing exactly that.

Can my green-card-holder sibling petition for me?

No. Only U.S. citizens aged 21 or over can file sibling petitions. A permanent resident sibling has no category to use, which is why some families' timelines start with a naturalization rather than a petition.
