Visa Bulletin priority date checker

The State Department publishes the bulletin as two dense tables and a jargon key; the question you actually have is whether it reaches your date. Pick your category and country, enter the priority date, and this page answers against both charts. USCIS has not yet named the chart it accepts for adjustment filings in September 2026, and this page says so rather than guessing.

How to read what the checker tells you

The bulletin runs on one comparison: a visa number can be authorized only when your priority date is earlier than the cut-off shown for your category and country of chargeability. “C” means the category is current, so every qualified applicant has a number available. “U” means no numbers are authorized at all this month, which usually marks an annual limit reached rather than anything about individual cases.

The two charts answer different questions. Final Action Dates decide when a case can be approved. Dates for Filing decide when documents can be assembled early, and, in months where USCIS adopts that chart, when an applicant in the United States can file for adjustment of status. USCIS announces its choice every month, which is why this page states the designation and the date it was verified rather than assuming.

Reaching your date is not a decision on your case, and it is not a processing time: it opens a gate, after which adjudication runs on its own clock. Cut-offs can also move backwards. Retrogression returns a filed case to waiting without costing it its place, and the fiscal-year boundary on October 1 is when annual limits reset and unavailable categories typically regain a cut-off.

Final Action Dates (September 2026)

A visa number can be authorized when a priority date is earlier than the cell for its category and country. C is current; U is unauthorized this month.

Dates for Filing (September 2026)

The earlier chart for assembling documents, and the filing chart where USCIS adopts it. USCIS has not yet said which chart governs adjustment-of-status filings for September 2026. Checked 2026-08-23; until it appears, the month has no filing chart, and the previous month's choice does not carry over.

Month-over-month movement

Movement below compares September 2026 against August 2026, cell by cell.

Common questions

Which chart applies to me?

Both, for different things. Final Action Dates decide when a visa number can be authorized, so they govern approvals and consular interviews. Dates for Filing let you assemble and submit documents earlier, and in months where USCIS adopts that chart for your preference type, they also govern when adjustment of status can be filed. The checker above states the current month's USCIS designation with the date it was verified.

My date was reached. Is my green card approved now?

No. A reached date means a visa number can be authorized for your case; adjudication, interviews, and background checks run on their own clocks after that gate opens. The bulletin controls availability, never processing speed.

What does U mean for my category?

No visa numbers are authorized for that category and country this month, typically because the annual limit is used up. Filed cases keep their place in line. Cut-offs generally return when new numbers do, most often at the fiscal year boundary on October 1.

My category retrogressed. Did I lose my place?

No. Your priority date is fixed; a cut-off moving backwards means the line's admission gate moved, not your position in it. A case filed while the date was reached stays filed and resumes when the cut-off passes your date again.

Which country do I select if I was born in one country but am a citizen of another?

Chargeability normally follows country of birth, not citizenship or residence. Cross-chargeability to a spouse's country of birth exists in some situations; that is a question for counsel rather than a chart.

Will next month's cut-off move forward?

Nobody can tell you that honestly, and this page never predicts. Cut-offs are set monthly from demand and statutory supply. What this page will do is record each month's charts as they publish and show the movement that actually happened.

Each tracked line has its own page with the current position under both charts, the verified month-by-month history, and how that specific queue is built.

Sources and scope

Transcribed from the Department of State's September 2026 Visa Bulletin document (Number 18, Volume XI), supplied as the published PDF. USCIS's chart designation is verified monthly on its adjustment-of-status filing charts page. The official pages govern wherever anything here differs:

The diversity visa lottery runs on rank numbers rather than priority dates and is out of scope here; the bulletin's DV section covers it. Read how to read the Visa Bulletin for the mechanics behind these charts, and the US Green Card page for wait context. Nothing on this page is legal advice.
